Candice and Jay began coaching the ballroom dance team together at Alta High School in 2005, and thus began the concept of CORE.  Jay comes from a strong ballroom dance background, while Candice was more studied in jazz, contemporary and ballet.  This collaboration resulted in a program that, while technically ballroom, suggested strong contemporary and jazz movements.  The dances were fresh and exciting, exploring themes such as peer pressure, high school heartbreak, and the joys of motherhood.

From the success of this program, we desired to bring this into a private studio, in order to expand this method of teaching to other age groups and styles of dance. Our goal with CORE is to teach classes that focus on technique while instilling artistry and a love of dance, with an appreciation for all genres of dance. Classes are not gender specific; we strongly encourage males to enjoy all styles of dance, not just hip hop or ballroom.

At CORE, we believe that a strong technical background is only the framework to a good dancer.  We believe that artistry and passion is what drives the technical dancer.  We believe in the original intent of dance, which is to express emotion.  We truly believe that dance should be an expression of the soul, to deliver the dancer’s joy, grief, love, loss, triumph or heartbreak, to deliver this message in a beautiful way.
We hope that you will join us in our love of dance!
